Business Process Optimization Project Summary

Rochester City School District

We optimized business processes for Rochester City School District, which serves approximately 60,000 students at close to 100 school sites. This client engaged CherryRoad to implement an ERP system. But, before implementing the Budgeting and Position Control applications, we first assessed their current budgeting and position management processes to ensure they fully maximized the technology’s capabilities.

Our process analysis uncovered communication issues both between the district departments and with the schools. We also discovered a lack of accountability and a lack of accurate performance measurements in some areas across the organization. Our numerous BPO recommendations included the development of a cross-functional team representing HR, Budget, MIS, Audit, School Operations, and Principals to improve communications about and understanding of District-wide initiatives.

We also recommended they establish service standards that define acceptable process timeframes and then make departments accountable for adhering to them. By implementing these and other process improvements, Rochester City School District was better prepared to fully leverage the capabilities of their ERP system.
