InfoWorld and CIO Magazine Honor AKO Portal
PARSIPPANY, NJ, April 1, 2002-Acuent Inc., a full-service systems integrator, today announced that its customer, the U.S. Army, received two awards for the Army Knowledge Online (AKO) portal, which Acuent helped to develop and continues to support.
InfoWorld ranked the U.S. Army AKO as 10th out of the top 100 innovative organizations exemplifying the best use of information technology. The Army was the only Federal agency selected among 100 organizations recognized by InfoWorld.
"The 2001 InfoWorld 100 organizations illustrate that innovation is alive and well, despite burdensome obstacles," said InfoWorld editors. "We commend these top businesses and their IT professionals and will continue to follow them during the rest of this year and next, taking a look at how their strategies change over time."
Additionally, CIO Magazine recently honored the U.S. Army AKO with the CIO Web Business 50 Award. CIO Magazine annually honors 50 of the most outstanding Internet and Intranet web sites of business, government and nonprofit agencies. Judging was based on sites demonstrating innovative ideas with design, ease of navigation, special features, functionality, site value, and service to the target market, customers or the organization.
With the Army Knowledge Online portal, each soldier and Army employee gets a customizable, encrypted page and access to Army forms, regulations, and news. The portal serves as both a single gateway to the Army's Intranet sites and a global identity authentication tool for users and applications.
Acuent has been providing IT support services to the Army's Chief Technology Office, parent of AKO, for more than three years. During this time, the number of AKO users has grown to approximately 900,000 making AKO one of the world's largest entrants.
